Gli azzurri, n. 3 del seeding, hanno battuto in due set i portoghesi Nuno Borges e Francisco Cabral: 6-4, 7-6(4) il punteggio in un’ora e 39 minuti. Una partita impeccabile al servizio da parte degli azzurri, decisa da un solo break nel terzo gioco del primo set. Poi, nel secondo parziale, Simone e Andrea hanno chiuso al tiebreak, girato con il mini break nel nono punto grazie a un passante di Bolelli. Bolelli e Vavassori torneranno in campo giovedì per la semifinale contro lo svedese Andre Goransson e l’olandese Sem Verbeek che, a sorpresa, hanno eliminato i n. 1 del seeding Arevalo/Pavic in tre set.
