Il tempone arriva nella tappa di TYR Pro Swim Series 2025 di Fort Lauderdale (Florida): 8:04.12, migliorando di più di mezzo secondo il precedente primato, che appunto le apparteneva, e siglato quasi nove anni fa, a Rio 2016 (8:04.79). Non solo: Katie Ledecky ha nuotato anche i 1500 sl col secondo miglior tempo della storia, 15’24″51, mentre nei 400 ha nuotato il suo miglior crono negli ultimi nove anni (3’56″81).
